SHORT BIO

Vito is a freelance drummer with more than 20 years of experience working in live and studio contexts as well as Musical Theatre shows and as columnist, drum methods reviewer and interviewer for the leading Italian magazine “Drum Club”.

 

During his career he recorded drums and toured all around Europe including Italy, UK, Belgium, France, Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania, Austria and Switzerland with different artists and bands as Soho (Universal music), LeBurn Maddox (James Brown), Ryan Webb, Emma Ballantine, Gianni Cicogna (Kiko Loureiro) and Andy (Bluvertigo) among the others.

EDUCATION

Vito started playing drums when he was a teenager. At 17, he started studying at C.S.M. Ricordi Music School (www.centrostudimusicaliditorino.it) in Turin, Italy, under the expert guidance of his teacher Paolo Narbona, a Turin famous jazz player, who followed Vito’s studies for two years. After this important learning experience, Vito decided to enroll in the famous Centro Professione Musica (CPM, www.centroprofessionemusica.it) based in Milan. CPM was founded in 1998 by Franco Mussida, popular Italian band PFM’s guitarist. His teacher there was Sergio Pescara, a well-known Italian session drummer. Vito and Sergio started working together and established a good relationship that influenced Vito’s musical and artistic career. Vito attended CPM until 2001, when he followed his teacher Sergio - who left the school in the same year – to deepen his knowledge of drums and different musical styles. In 2005 he returned to CPM and completed his drums education with Roberto Gualdi (Lucio Dalla, PFM, Dolcenera). Vito also studied intensive sight reading with Mr. Ruggero Pazzaglia (Berkley institute), percussions with Giorgio Palombino and ensemble music with Diego Michelon, Paolo Jannacci, Antonio Bonazzo and Luca Biggio. He is now familiar with a vast repertoire of styles: Rock, Pop, Funk, Hip Hop and linear and sticking technique.


LIVE EXPERIENCE

Vito started to perform live mostly in the North of Italy with different rock, pop, hip hop and funk bands, such as SUPREMA, for which he played together with bassist Gianni Cicogna (Ricky Portera, Paola e Chiara) and guitarist Danilo Bar (WHITE SKULL); SATCH BOOGIE (Joe Satriani tribute band); GATE KEEPAZ (hip hop); ROCK THE NIGHT (Europe tribute band recognized by the official Italian fan club, which played in the presence of Europe’s drummer and won the critics award); and ARCANSIEL, a progressive rock band that published six records (the last one produced by the French MUSEA RECORDS). Vito played with them at PROG FARM in Bakkeveen, Netherlands, on the 5th November 2005 festival. 

While at CPM, Vito was the academy’s band drummer, which was directed by Dino D’Autorio.  Vito also recorded drums for Milan songwriter Michele Rovelli’s album.

Since December 2006, Vito has been a member of SO:HO, an Italian pop rock band that published two records, produced by COSMONOTE, V2 (VIRGIN) and Carlo Rossi (Jovanotti’s producer). Following the first album, the band started a 40-show tour in Italy and had some important guest stars, such as ALBERTO FORTIS and MORGAN from BLUVERTIGO.
The band made three videos for Italian television (MTV, ALL MUSIC) – one of them with MORGAN.


                                                                                                        

Since June 2008, Vito has been playing with SNEAKERS –  Italian Depeche Mode tribute band – touring all over Italy and Europe. They have done concerts at many of the most important venues in Italy (Alcatraz, Milan; Fuori Orario, Reggio Emilia; Live, Milan; Thunder Road, Treviso; etc) as well as abroad (Belgium; Switzerland; Turkey; Romania, France), working with two of the most important Italian music agencies (MAGIX PROMOTION and STARS GARDEN).


Since 2008, Vito has also been playing with MACS INGHIO’s band – an emerging rock singer from Turin – that has released several albums. Vito recorded drums for the band’s last two albums.

Vito has also been member of the LIZARD Academy band since 2012. The band plays in theatres to a show dedicated to the most popular musicals in cooperation with GIPSY Musical Academy.

In 2012 Vito recorded drums for the album of the italian  guitarist Alberto Rubatti, called En Plein Air.

Vito has become a member of the band SETTEMBRE NERO in September 2012, with whom he has been playing extensively all over North Italy.

​Vito plays on average at 40 live concerts per year around Italy and Europe.

 

Moved in London since July of 2014 he started to play with different artist such as 3rd Degree LeBurn Maddox (Chaka Khan and James Brown guitarist), Alix Anthony, Molek, Emma Ballantine, Ryan Webb etc and to record the drum lines in different London's studios with a lot of different artists.

 

At the end of 2015 he has played drums for the Pet Shop Boys musical "Closer to Heaven" at the Union theatre, produced by Kylie Vilcins for Paul Taylor-Mills and directed by Gene David Kirk with the musical direction by Patrick Stockbridge (20 shows).

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Vito has been teaching drums privately since 2001 and in music schools in Turin since November 2006. He has a total of about 40 students between private and school lessons.

The first school he taught at was Turin Valentino Studio, where he has worked between November 2006 and June 2012. From September 2008 until July 2012 Vito has taught at Borgaro Centro Didattica Musicale (CDM).

Vito has started working at the prestigious Lizard Academy (www.lizardtorino.net, www.lizardpiemonte.net) in October 2009, teaching first and upper level classes in Grugliasco and Beinasco. As of September 2010, he has been teaching at the school’s Turin site and subsequently at its central site in Vercelli, since January 2012.

Since the year 2014 he started to teach privately in London area.

Vito has also been teaching drums at Yamaha music school since September 2011. Yamaha is the world famous Japanese school with its own teaching method.

​

Since September of 2012 he became drums tutor at “Infinite Art” music school (www.infiniteart.it), site in Chieri (Turin, Italy), teaching to a total of about 25 students.

In December 2010 Vito started publishing his own column, Italian Rockin’ Drums, on the well-known musical specialist magazine Drum Club. In his articles Vito analyses Italian rock drummers’ different styles through their biographies and instrument descriptions.

In 2011, Vito took up his activity clinician in parallel with his teaching work. He runs Rock, Funk and Rn’B clinics at various music schools. Furthermore, he is often asked to do demos at drumming fairs such as Turin’s Officina dei Tamburi and Villadeati Music School.
